Jeremiah 9:23-24
9:23 Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise and skillful person glory and boast in his wisdom and skill; let not the mighty and powerful person glory and boast in his strength and power; let not the person who is rich [in physical gratification and earthly wealth] glory and boast in his [temporal satisfactions and earthly] riches;
9:24 But let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me [personally and practically, directly discerning and recognizing My character], that I am the Lord, Who practices loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord.
To DELIGHT means to take pleasure in something or someone; which means God is interested in that which gives Him glory.
\”For the Lord takes pleasure in His people\”. (Psalm 149:4).
Generally, people tend to admire certain attributes in a person when it is exhibited by the person such as * Wisdom; * Power And * Riches; But God put a high priority on man knowing Him personally and living a life that reflects His justice, righteousness and love.
Glory in Latin means Gloria that is (\”Fame or Renown\”), is used to describe the manifestation of God\’s presence as perceived by human being.
\”For the Lord delights in His people, He crowns the humble with victory\”
God inhabits in the praises of His people as such the bible advised us to always praise God. We often may not be sure of what is the exact way of praise to God or how we can praise Him . Several ways have been suggested on how best to praise the Lord for instance by Singing; by dancing or by using musical instruments. God enjoys His people when they practice such and is good to praise the Lord always.
In psalm 149:1, the psalmist says \”I praise ,sing to the Lord a new song, sing His praises in the assembly of the faithful\”.
Most of the Psalms are prayers and most of the prayers includes praises to God. Praise expresses admiration; appreciation and thanksgiving. Praises are often directed to God in admiration and thanksgivings concerning all that He has done for us.
King David in Psalm 138 pours out his heart to God in gratitude to God\’s faithfulness in answers to all his prayers, praises and worship at the Holy Temple of God . He can\’t but burst out with joy to declare what the Lord has done for him
138:1 I WILL confess and praise You [O God] with my whole heart; before the gods will I sing praises to You.
138:2 I will worship toward Your holy temple and praise Your name for Your loving-kindness and for Your truth and faithfulness; for You have exalted above all else Your name and Your word and You have magnified Your word above all Your name!
138:3 In the day when I called, You answered me; and You strengthened me with strength (might and inflexibility to temptation) in my inner self.
138:4 All the kings of the land shall give You credit and praise You, O Lord, for they have heard of the promises of Your mouth [which were fulfilled].
138:5 Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the Lord and joyfully celebrate His mighty acts, for great is the glory of the Lord. (Amp. B).
\”Then I was beside Him as a master workman and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in the world, His earth and having my delight in the sons of men\”. (Proverbs 8:30-31).
However the Lord do not delight in the boasting of man that will glorify man\’s ego. By strength shall no man prevail. For the Lord says He cannot share His glory with any man.
10 \”He delights not in the strength of the horse, nor does He take pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 The Lord takes pleasure in those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy and loving-kindness\”. (psalm 147:10-11).
The Lord delights only in that thing which will give Him glory and these are seen in the things we do always that glorifies His Holy name.
Does what you do edifies God? I mean does it glory in the glory of God Almighty. We must see to it that we must live a life of glory unto the Lord by putting some checks and balances in the things we do and make sure we are not basking in our own abilities forgetting God who enabled Us
Psalms 51:16-17
[16]You don’t want penance; if you did, how gladly I would do it! You aren’t interested in offerings burned before you on the altar.
[17]It is a broken spirit you want—remorse and penitence. A broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not ignore.
\”BEHOLD MY Servant, Whom I uphold, My elect in Whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice and right and reveal truth to the nations\”.(Isaiah 42:1).
For it is not the man who praises and commends himself who is approved and accepted, but it is the person whom the LORD accredits and commands. That as it is written \”He who glories let him glory in the LORD\”. (1Corinthaians 1:31). Be boastful in the Lord not in your own capabilities and in the things you have.
