FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT (CONT).Galatians 5:22-24

It is my good pleasure to complete this TOPIC \”FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT\” This topic has been of great blessing to me becaues the more l read and search to know more about the topic the more revealing and instructive it gets to my spirit man as such getting more knowledge as why it is called the fruit of the spirit and the more I want to allaign myself with the attribute of the fruit of the spirit.  Glory be to God for the great insight.

SELF CONTROL is one of such fruit and is a very interesting issue to look into because most time we missed it in life due to not being able to discipline our own self, it isn\’t  because we are not having the capacity or the will to achieve a great feat NO! rather because we lack the right behaviour which can carry us through.

Self control is the ability to allow yourself to stop from doing a thing which ordinarily you may wish to do that may not be to your best interest to stop but because of its adverse effect you stopped.  Self control is a restraint of oneself against an action it may be for positive or negative action. When a man lacks self control he is likened as a city whose walls are broken down.

\"\"

That is why the Bible warns us that if we do not have self control, we will be slaves to what controls us. Food, lust, money, our words or even our actions, we can find ourselves overwhelmed with the consequences of not having self control in many areas of life. Being self controlled is the very foundation for living a life of righteousness and selflessness that reflects Jesus and brings glory to God. We have the power to bring sins under control!  People who exercises self control are master of their moods they do not allow their moods to master them that\’s why most great achievement carried out or done in this world are mostly accomplished by people who have self control.
Paul the apostle exhibited so much contsraint and endurance in other to accomplished success in his kingdom race by saying thus \”All this I do for the gospel\’s sake, in order to share in its blessings.  Surely you know that many runners take part in a race, but only one of them wins the prize. Run, then, in such a way as to win the prize.  Every athlete in training submits to strict discipline, in order to be crowned with a wreath that will not last; but we do it for one that will last forever. That is why I run straight for the finish line; that is why I am like a boxer who does not waste his punches.  I harden my body with blows and bring it under complete control, to keep myself from being disqualified after having called others to the contest\”. (1 Corinthians 9:23-27).

To really push yourself hard as such you may as well bridle your tongue because the word of God warned us about the use of our tongue which is  very big tool to watch in self control. \”Not many [of you] should become teachers [serving in an official teaching capacity], my brothers and sisters, for you know that we [who are teachers] will be judged by a higher standard [because we have assumed greater accountability and more condemnation if we teach incorrectly].  For we all stumble and sin in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says [never saying the wrong thing], he is a perfect man [fully developed in character, without serious flaws], able to bridle his whole body and rein in his entire nature [taming his human faults and weaknesses]. Now if we put bits into the horses’ mouths to make them obey us, we guide their whole body as well. And look at the ships. Even though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the impulse of the helmsman determines.  In the same sense, the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things.\”( James 3:1-5). And the very best way to exercise restrain is when you have formed the habit of giving a listening ear instead of doing all the talking

The book of James 1:19-21 says \”Remember this, my dear friends! Everyone must be quick to listen, but slow to speak and slow to become angry.  Human anger does not achieve God\’s righteous purpose.  So get rid of every filthy habit and all wicked conduct. Submit to God and accept the word that he plants in your hearts, which is able to save you\”.

Self control is a very good principle of life if you must go far in life, is inexhaustible and the fruit cannot be over emphasis, is the ability to checkmate self as well as controll what happeans around you including on what you allow around you or in keeping relationships. It help you equally to motivate or mentor others  that is why you can easily identify If you or someone you know is struggling with self control then it\’s time to get hold of the Word of God and allow Scripture to change your heart and mind. The Bible has power and when you choose to meditate and memorize verses, you will be reminded of the truth in your moment of losing self control and you will be able to make the right decision! If you find out that you have uncontrollable anger or you have the tendency of rising and falling in an attempt to maintain a stable life style not to worry most of us were once like that the most important thing is to make effort to adjust, always be ready to grab your bible and learn to prayerfully  read the Bible verses that deals with  self control and begin taking small steps each day to bring your thoughts and actions into line with God\’s plan for your life to live free and fully alive! May  you receive the auction to imbibe in self control so as to enjoy a peaceful cohesion in life. Cheers! Blessing
