Exodus 4:1-4
1 AND MOSES answered, But behold, they will not believe me or listen to and obey my voice; for they will say, The Lord has not appeared to you.
2 And the Lord said to him, What is that in your hand? And he said, A rod.
3 And He said, Cast it on the ground. And he did so and it became a serpent [the symbol of royal and divine power worn on the crown of the Pharaohs]; and Moses fled from before it.
4 And the Lord said to Moses, Put forth your hand and take it by the tail. And he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand,
The Rod of Moses is a staff or a long stick (Wood) in the hand of a shepherd used in the control and the leading of the flocks, to manage, help or defend them in times of attack.
The Bible usage of the Rod symbolises God\’s authority, Power, the Authority of a king or a Nation. It could also mean a tool for encouragment or comfort like David says in psalm 23:4(c) \”For you are with me your rod and your staff, they comfort me\”.
When God ordered Moses and said to Moses, 10\”Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.\”
11 But Moses said to God, \”Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?\”12 So He said, \”I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.\”(Exodus 3:10-12).
Then Moses answered and said \”But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice, suppose they say \’The Lord has not appeared to you\’\” So the Lord said to him \”What is it in your hand? He said \”A Rod\”. (Exodus 4:1-2).
Most times we do not realize that what we are holding in our hands could be used to enhance or advance our race in life. That thing which you\’re holding and you regard as common may turn out to be the very right tool you need to record a huge success, and could bring a turn around in your whole life time
When God called Moses to go back to the same Pharaoh he ran away from to safe his life to deliver His people from humiliation, from slavery and hardship, from pains and suffering, from maltreatment and lack. Moses was reluctant obviously knowing the kind of people he was asked to deliver as being stiff kneck people, very rebellious people whom he had had an encounter with way back and that caused his jetting out of the palace where he was nutured as a son
At Times God may throw a very big challenge to us which may break or strengthen us. In this case most people may resign to fate at the end of their bitter experience while others may see it as an opportunity to begin again and continue to push through the storm until things get better.
By the time God decided to send Moses, He already had known that the mission He was sending Moses most bring Him glory and must prove to His Enemies that He is God Almighty, The \”I AM WHO I AM\”;A MIRACLE WORKING GOD, THE MIGHTY WORRIOR who can never fail in any battle. He can use anything to showcase His AWESOMENESS.
The Rod, an ordinary wood cut out from an almond tree and dried up for common use by the time the power of God backs it up it becomes a tool of Signs and Wonders, a tool for Victory.
And God said, \”Cast it on the ground. And he did so and it became a serpent [the symbol of royal and divine power worn on the crown of the Pharaohs]; and Moses fled from before it. And the Lord said to Moses, Put forth your hand and take it by the tail. And he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand\”. (Exodus 4:3-4).
The widow of Zarephath thought the last flour and a tiny drop of oil she had was all that was left for her son and herself to eat and get ready to die since the famine in the land was excruciating that no other sources of a livelihood but when the power of God was behind the voice of prophet Elijah concerning that which she had in her hand she began to feed extra mouths not just for her son and herself but she had more than enough to last until when God says otherwise.
8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 9 \”Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.\” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, \”Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.\” 11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, \”Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.\”
12 So she said, \”As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.\”13 And Elijah said to her, \”Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.14 For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lordsends rain on the earth.\’\”15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16 The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lordwhich He spoke by Elijah\”.(1king 17:8-16).
