MARK 4:35-41. (ESV).
35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, \”Let us go across to the other side.\”
36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him.
37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling.
38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, \”Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?\”
39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, \”Peace! Be still!\” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 He said to them, \”Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?\”
41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, \”Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?\” (Mark 4:35, ESV)
Storm is a powerful violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong wind and usually thunder, lighting or snow. There are other types of storms like tornadoes, hurricanes and storm of lives hardship experiences. Storms are common event here on earth irrespective of human precautionary measures, storms occurred expectedly or unexpectedly even when it is apparent that Jesus Christ our savior is in the same boat with us.
My brethren if you have not pass through any stormy condition I glorify God for your sake, hmmm!! its not an easy fit to overcome without your faith not tested when it matters to being afraid at the on set of such violent wind of disturbances.
My goodness! On Saturday 8th of May 2021, I was on board air flight on my way back from Kano to Abuja that eventful evening, it was a terrible experience I had not experience in all my air travels.
After few minutes of our cruising the voice came in like a warning’ please there should be no movement in the cabin everybody should take their seat we are going to experience storm ……. frankly before he could end his statement it came like a thunderstorm hit the aircraft with a Big Bang as if the aircraft dropped heavily down; my heart cut . Shouting of Jesus Christ!! , God ooo please save us, many other noises, prayers here and there.
I sat close to the window I prayed earnestly, binding and casting the devil at the same time rebuking the storm like our Lord and savior Jesus Christ did according to our reading in Mark 4: 39, but with a great fear because of the continuous turbulent and I was seeing the whole effect of the storm on the plane making it tumble and drop like an ordinary object really fighting hard to overcome the force of the wind. My dear it wasn’t funny at all.
All my focus and attention was on the atmospheric condition of the heavy cloudy movement while praying, very scaring .
Almost like a flash I heard “Remove your Eyes from the Storm\”, I closed my eyes but stop praying and started singing praises unto the Lord when I opened my eyes again I never knew that I was very loud my neighbor was steering at me. However I was strengthened with fresh hope that the presence of God in the plane will surely make the difference. There must be PEACE and CALM in a short while.
Shortly a voice came up to announced that we are at Azikewe International Airport Abuja about to land…. I was still praising and thanking God before I heard a strong drop on the ground roughly with fast galloping until it came to a slow taxing and there was a heavy down pour of rain fall at the airport. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
Apparently in that terrible situation I saw the awesomeness of God in carrying us safely through the storm without tears or horrifying ending. It thought me a great lesson that FEAR is a very hopeless distraction from the reality of who God is in our lives.
It also thought me that is not every storm that can lead to disaster.
Some storms in our lives are there to give us wisdom and to enlighten us how to put all our trust in God and believe that He can never fail. Praise is a great tool and a mystery that can quail and silence our fears 2Chronicles 20:22, “As they begin to sing and praise, God showed up and turned the enemies against themselves and not one of them escaped”.
No wonder Jesus asked His disciples “why are you afraid ? Do you still have no Faith? Yes! Because they have been with Jesus our savior and ought to have learnt His ways and be impacted strongly by His word which was enough to teach them on what to do when situation seems to be out of their control. “fear of man will prove to be a snare but whosever trusts in the Lord is kept safe”. (Proverbs 29: 25).
“Fear thou not, for I am with thee be not Dismayed for I am thy God ; I will strengthen thee; yea I will uphold thee. With the right hand of my Righteousness” Isaiah 40:10.
Are you going through one form of storm? Try to put off your eyes on the storm , concentrate on what the word of God says “FEAR NOT FOR I AM WITH YOU”.
“Have I not commanded You? “Be Strong and Courageous . Do not be Discouraged for the LORD Your God will Be with You wherever You Go” Joshua 1:9. This is God’s commandment to His Children whenever they face storm. Remember to put your eyes on the Lord and trusting that only Jesus Christ can save not the expertise of man or by our own righteousness But by the Righteousness of God Almighty. PRAISE THE LORD HALLELUJAH!!!.
Remain Blessed 🙏
