A PRUDENT LIP.

Proverbs 16 :20-21. NKJ.

20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he. 21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

It is good and profitable to use God\’s wisdom to solve situations. When we try to solve situations using our emotions, mistakes will always be made. You will find joy and happiness when you rely on the wisdom of God, because it always ensures that situations turn out for the best.

Wisdom is profitable to direct says the preacher. It takes wisdom to go to war and defeat your opponent without necessarily fighting with any known weapon. The scripture says if you handle a matter wisely you will find good and if you mishandled the matter it backfires.

Ecclesiastes stipulates that \”wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense; but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it. He that understands his business thoroughly, and manages it prudently and discreetly, is likely to have good success; but no one is so happy, no one is so sure of prospering in his designs, as he that confides more in God than in his own skill and ability.

Anyone that has a good mindset furnished with wisdom in planning his affairs will obtain a great reputation, then when he combines it with sweetness of lips he shall be highly esteemed for his prudent counsels and it will add a greater value to his wisdom, and make it more diffusive and instructive in handling matters no matter how complex.

When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.” Proverbs 10:19 [ESV]

I learnt my lesson in a very hard way last month August 16th 2022 when I had a serious argument with a brother SUNDAY who was in the habit of molesting and insulting his aged father.

Unfortunately, I was around that fateful day he picked on his father when he tried to break open his sick mother\’s room who has gone to stay with his younger sister for medical treatment and the father tried to stopped him then the way he bullied his father and molested him attracted my anger and I rebuked him. Honestly, I do not know if prior to that incident, he had already highlighted a bullet points awaiting for me anytime I put mouth in his matter or anytime I tried to intervene whenever he is at his father\’s throat I do not know.

Before I could open my mouth for the 2nd time he had falsely dressed me down calling me names; MY GOD!! I was confused wondering where such wicked words was coming from. Frankly I didn\’t found it funny However with bold face defenselessly I left from the scene but at night on my knee I cried to God to defend and fight my battles. Yet after praying I did a quick recap to imagined what I said could have triggered the out pouring of such a malicious words from a brother I remembered when he started his abuse to his father he had just finished drinking alcohol then I said \”Em… Alcohol Is Talking\” referring to him.

I asked myself was I foolish in the way I started reacting because I couldn\’t stand his torment on his father any longer due to his health condition and age wise . Anyway I put it behind me and have not cease to pray for his bitter mind and uncultured attitude towards people in general. In the cause of my daily bible reading l came across proverbs 16:20&21 \”He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he. The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning\”

I said perhaps I moved by emotional instinct, I should have applied wisdom and be prudent enough to use sweet lips to counsel Mr Sunday who knows if I would have gotten a little respect or handled the matter wisely Nevertheless, he was extremely RUDE TO ME & his FATHER Irrespective

Since then one of my prayer points has been God, I choose to guard my mouth rather than being hasty with my words. Give me the discernment to know how to handle issues more so when it has to do with a highly temperamental person and with whom I should be discreet. Help me to apply the wisdom of His Word to avoid unnecessary troubles or heartache in life. Amen.

We have just entered EMBER Months. People may for no fault of yours decide to look for a way of dressing you down in a very abusive or downgrading manner, don\’t get discourage move on and get yourself busy with the right approach of taking things on its stride without weighing yourself down with another man\’s inability of controlling his misfortune. Always be grateful to God for His Mercies and learn to live with people peaceably.
