1Samuel 18:6-9. NCBV.
6 After David had killed the Philistine, he and the men returned home. Women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul. They sang songs of joy, danced, and played tambourines and stringed instruments. 7 As they played, they sang,
“Saul has killed thousands of his enemies,
but David has killed tens of thousands.”
8 The women’s song upset Saul, and he became very angry. He thought, “The women say David has killed tens of thousands, but they say I have killed only thousands. The only thing left for him to have is the kingdom!” 9 So Saul watched David closely from then on, because he was jealous.
Jealousy is bad and terrible sin can consume the mind like a bush fire. Saul was so jealous of David\’s popularity that he watched and waited for opportunities to kill him. Despite all the hatred King Soul showed David yet David so respected God\’s choice that he refused to kill Saul, even after knowing Saul\’s intent against him.
I hope that you have never been the focus of someone\’s envy or jealousy. It happens every where you find people staying together. In school, children get involved, that\’s why you hear cases of bullied children in school. It happens in work place to workers in all fields and positions, even to neighbors. Workers may find that others take credit for what someone else has done. Neighbors have been known to vandalize the property of those they envy. People have been mistakingly fired when a jealous employee cooked up stories out of envy about misbehavior. Innocent people are murdered for no offense of theirs just because of envy and jealous.
God has given each of us the gifts that we need to accomplish the mission he has planned for us. We do not need to measure ourselves against anyone else. Someone will always be better looking or more intelligent, or wealthier, than we are. That does not mean that God loves that other person more. It does not make that person better. God made each of us in his image and likeness – not some of us. Let us all look to ourselves and see how we can be the best person we can be.
\”We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they show their ignorance\”. 2 Corinthians 10:12.
Let us examine all the ways in which we can grow in our knowledge of God so that we can follow Jesus more closely. The only one our lives need to be pleasing to is God, and he already knows the gifts we have been given and he also knows how we can use them for our good and the good of others.
PRAYER
Gracious God, you have given each one of us all we needed to serve you and fulfill our mission on earth. Father I pray we look to you in gratitude and in submission to your Will to us, I ask for your guidance and help us to use our gifts You specially given to everyone of us to the fullest and not to compare ourselves to others in a bad light in Jesus name amen.
REFLECTION
Do not live with Envy and Jealousy for it is like cancer it takes away your peace of mind. For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
