James 3:14-16.
14 But if you are selfish and have bitter jealousy in your hearts, do not brag. Your bragging is a lie that hides the truth. 15 That kind of “wisdom” does not come from God but from the world. It is not spiritual; it is from the devil. 16 Where jealousy and selfishness are, there will be confusion and every kind of evil.
Selfishness leads to bitter jealousy which leads to Disorderliness and other evil vices; It can happen in Marriages, Families, Friendships, Communities, Organizations even amongst Church Members and Leaders of higher positions within the Christendom.
Jesus lived his life for humanity. He was completely selfless. He gave up his life for sinners. Yet, we are selfish. When we are envious and want what someone else has for ourselves, we are coveting and covetousness is a sin. The scripture says in Exodus 20:17: “You shall not covet your neighbor\’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor\’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor\’s.”
Therefore do not be fooled! Jealousy and selfishness are evil. Jealous is described as a feeling or showing an envious resentment of someone or their achievements, possessions, or perceived advantages While Selfishness is the quality or state of being selfish; lack of consideration for other people. Though they may be opposite in meaning yet none of these is supposed to be said of a true child of God.
When we are tempted by our selfish desires and jealous heart, may we repent and ask God to change our spirit.
However, as we grow older and get more mature in our walk with the Lord, we gradually start to see that all of this material wealth and goods in this life is really irrelevant in respect to how God has the big picture set up for our lives.
PRAYER
Dear God, forgive us for the times we have through our actions or inaction been filled with Jealous and acted out of own selfish desires. Forgive us for any spirit of covetousness knowingly or unknowingly we may have displayed in any form. O Lord, change our attitude! Give us a heart like yours. I want to live for you and not for myself – I know this means caring for others more than myself. Help me to follow your example, In Jesus Mighty name I prayed , Amen.
REFLECTION
How many times over the years have you been jealous of some of the things your neighbors, friends, or even some of the members of your own family had that you did not have?

I agree with you, but we have two types of jealous, 1. Jealous out of love and jealous out of wickedness.
