CAST ME NOT AWAY IN TIME OF OLD AGE.

Psalm 71:9. AMP.

Cast me not off nor send me away in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent and my powers fail.

Old age is a blessing from the Lord, we should not be afraid of aging but it is the responsibility of the younger ones to show kindness, Love and Respect to their aged or elderly.

32 “‘Show respect to old people; stand up in their presence. Show respect also to your God. I am the Lord. (Leviticus 19:32).

Old age is one of the promises of God to mankind. The scripture says with long life I will satisfy you. And in the book of Isaiah He said “I will be your God throughout your lifetime — until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you\” (Isaiah 46:4).

Old age is like everything else and to make success of it you got to start young, So we do not give up. Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day.

\”Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations. Ask your father and he will show you, your elders, and they will tell you. (Deuteronomy 32:7).

Today, aging is still considered a sign of experience and wisdom in many cultures across the planet. The Bible is replete with a number of references to valuing the wisdom and experience of older adults \”Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old,\” Job 12:12, reminding us of the value of speaking with older adults.

1 Kings 12:6 tells us that Solomon once sought the expertise of older men who helped him make important decisions about the kingdom of Israel.

\”Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers\”,. (1Timothy 5:1)

The bible also encourages us to show love to our parents and honour them. Old age is a thing of pride for Children. Most people do not see or know both parents as they were growing up while others may be lucky to have seen either of the parent to such people if ask them how was growing up to them perhaps a tail of woes but Blessed are you if you grow up before your parents. I can\’t begin to enumerates the gains here for they are numerous.

22 Listen to your father, who gave you life,
and do not forget your mother when she is old.
23 Learn the truth and never reject it.
Get wisdom, self-control, and understanding.
24 The father of a good child is very happy;
parents who have wise children are glad because of them.
25 Make your father and mother happy;
give your mother a reason to be glad. (Proverbs 23:22-25). NCV.

The first and second greatest commandments are to love God and love your neighbor as your self. See Matthew 22:30-31

It is not Christ-like to forget and neglect the elderly. If our neighbor is old, and we do not help them when they need help, how is that loving? When our own kin grow old, how can we love them the way Christ loves the Church? The people who are old are the ones who cared for us when we were young and helpless. It is our duty to care for them when they are old.

\”Children\’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers\”. (Proverbs 17:6) KJV.

It\’s very pitiable when you see a child that pays no regards or respect and honour to his parents mostly at old age “The eye that mocks a father, that scorns an aged mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures\” Proverbs 30 17.

\”But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.\” (1 Timothy 5:8) KJV.

\"\"

It\’s about one of the rules in the bible that has promises attached to \”Honour To Parents\” but you will be amazed to find out that honour to parents are no more obtained in some circles some treat their parents with disdain despite every reasonable saying and culture. There\’s this saying my grandma will repeatedly said

\”As you treat your parents when they are aging so shall your children do unto you because it\’s a seed your sowing\”

I never got to consider the meaning until now I have my both parents aging before us me and my other siblings and I begin to realize how frail my parents are getting and how much care and love we need to express to them to ease their aging difficulties mostly at their sick bed yet most appalling to notice that some of their children cared less with flimsy excuses of their parents showing preferential treatment to particular children out of Nine Children.

What a double jeopardy in the sense that God\’s promises of honour to parents and the reaping of same seed sown to your parents at their old age awaits the person because you only reap what you sow. When you sow the seed of love to your parents it even reflects on your wellness. Your attitude to the aged reflects on your altitude.

\"\"

God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.

7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end. (1Corinthians 13:3-7). TMV.

Love covers multitude of offense the scripture says. When a Child loves his parents he can put in everything to secure their happiness in time of their old age irrespective of what he claims transpired at whatever stage of growing up with them for he will one day grow old like them.

VALUE, HONOUR, CARE AND RESPECT THEM. For these are the good seeds you\’re sowing for your own enjoyment at your own old age.

Thanks for Reading. Remain Blessed.

  1. Absolutely, thank you for your post reminding us of God’s requirements for us to honour our parents. One of the great shames of our current society is the dishonourable and terrible way we treat our aged population. It’s a disgrace to us.
